The School of Basic Sciences (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) at EPFL seeks to appoint a tenured Associate/Full Professor in Computational and Applied Mathematics.
We seek outstanding candidates who will play a major role in further developing research and education at EPFL in computational and applied mathematics, with research interests in core topics of the area, including but not restricted to computational aspects of multiscale, multiphysics and stochastic modeling, as well as numerical simulation of dynamical systems, scientific machine learning, and/or reduced order modeling. The candidate should have an interest in building interdisciplinary collaborations and bridges with other major entities in the ETH domain and beyond, with the ambition to create and coordinate world-leading initiatives to develop mathematics for a specific application field of major strategic importance, such as personalized medicine, sustainability, planet earth, etc. Priority will be given to the overall originality and impact of the candidate’s work over any particular specialization area.
Candidates should hold a PhD and have an excellent record of scientific accomplishments in the field, commensurate with the rank of a tenured professor. In addition, a strong commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels within the Section and Doctoral School of mathematics is expected. The successful candidate is also expected to play an important role in the EPFL’s MSc in Computational Science and Engineering.
