Rolex Learning Center Forum
Tuesday, the 4th of March, 2014, at 7:00 p.m.
We, from EPFL’s Arts and Cultural Affairs, and the Swiss-Japanese Circle, are pleased to offer you a new, exclusive Japanese show:
The French opera “Actéon” and the Italian intermezzo “Livietta e Tracollo” will be interpreted and enacted in the style of the Japanese noh theater tradition
This project aspires not only to combine Western opera and Japanese noh theater, but also to create a new way to stage western opera. This production, “Opera@NOH-Theatre,” which received broad acclaim when it was first performed in Tokyo in June 2011, will be setting off on its first European tour in March 2014 and will give western audiences a chance to discover the perculiar osmosis between two distict theatrical traditions, western opera and Japanese noh theater.
The show is one of the main events organized to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Swiss-Japanese diplomatic relations. The Swiss tour will be carried out under the patronage of the Japanese Embassy in Switzerland.
Tickets to the show in the Rolex Learning Center Forum will be on sale in February 2014. At that time, 200 free tickets will be raffled off to EPFL students and collaborators on EPFL’s culture BLOG.
