Junya.ishigami+associates was founded in 2004 in Tokyo. Recipient of the 2009 Architectural Institute of Japan Prize, Junya Ishigami is a dynamic architect, active both in Japan and abroad and one of the most eagerly watched at present. He exhibited in the Japanese Pavilion at the 2008 Venice Biennale of Architecture, and was further awarded the Golden Lion for Best Project in the group show at Venice Biennale of Architecture in 2010. It is Ishigami’s belief that, “Architecture is one of the tools available for opening up worlds we have not yet discovered”. His practice reflects his quest to find new potentials for architecture through freedom of ideas not confined to existing thinking.

Currently ongoing projects include the cafeteria for the Kanagawa Institute of Technology, Ferry terminal in Kinmen Island Taiwan, the reconstruction of the Polytechnic Museum in Moscow, and the Park Groot Vijversburg in the Netherlands. Regardless of its scale, each project is approached with an open-ended perspective to conceive a unique outcome.
