Les Oiseaux (The Birds)
Thursday May 12th from 6:30 to 7:45 pm
Rolex Learning Center Forum – EPFL
The forty dancers of the Rudra Béjart’s School Lausanne invite you to discover Les Oiseaux, a show inspired by Aristophanes’ work, famous Greek playwright from the 4th century before our era.
With humour, they offer the vision of a utopic world where the human and divine wanderings of the Greek classical era reflect the remnants of our contemporary society.
This show uses all of the arts that are taught by the professors of Maurice Béjart school. The young « «Rudrists » coming from 16 countries will in one same motion play comedy, dance and sing in Greek the magnificent Ornithes Symphonic Poem, composed by Manos Hadjidakis in 1962 and based on Aristophanes’ text. The young « Bird-Dancers » sing and dance their love for life and create their own « City » between earth and sky. But can the gods and men surrounding them accept to lose their powers by granting them freedom ?
The Ballet-Comedy Les Oiseaux, entirely choreographed by the dancers, will embrace its very dimension, lifted by the music live-interpreted by the musicians, pianist and percussionists of the Rudra Béjart’s School Lausanne.
