Rolex Learning Center – Eastern Patio
From April 27th to October 11th 2017
Preview with musical performance of rocking chairs : Thursday April 27th at noon
At the center of the eastern large patio of the Rolex Learning Center, Swiss Artist Camille Scherrer installs Boum Tchak Bam, three musical rocking chairs.
These chairs, drawn by the artist, bigger than common chairs, suggest to students and passersby to rest while swinging. The chair’s swaying causes music to play because sounds are emitted from it. Three people at once may activate the chairs and try to compose together a piece of music.
This sound creation is broadcasted by radio waves, in the Rolex Learning Center (around the microwaves oven after the Takinoa cafeteria).
Camille Scherrer, young graduate from the ECAL, is invited to the EPFL for the Artist on Campus event organised by the Cultural and Artistic Affairs. She works with new technologies, sound and design.
Through this poetic, interactive and fun work, Camille Scherrer encourages the EPFL community to relaxation and collective creativity.
