How to imagine a written transcription for the dance?
TRACES’ creation is a meeting point between art and technological innovation. The dancer’s movements are recorded and transmitted in real time into artistic signals. This is all possible thanks to a technology developed by the EPFL start-up Gait Up. The whole performance is set upon an original music composition.
Thanks to the latest technological developments in movement measurement, a sensor placed on the dancer’s slipper transcribes the movements in real time to a big screen. TRACES is set to offer a written transcription of the dance similar to what a partition is to music.
Flux Laboratory has though of this project in its totality. It has therefore assembled a multidisciplinary team of members of both the artistic as well as the technological world. This performance was presented for the first time during the inauguration of the Biotech Campus in Geneva in May 2015.
