Wireless Network Optimization: Strategies for Stable and High-Performance Long-Range Wi-Fi Connections

Internship Description:
AFRICAVENIR has deployed a community internet access network using Wi-Fi equipment to benefit students in primary and secondary schools and low-income populations. To extend this network to more remote villages, the organization is seeking to improve its stability, performance, and security.

The intern will work closely with the local team to:

  • Configure and install fast, reliable internet networks tailored to user needs.

  • Monitor, manage, and optimize existing internal and external network systems.

  • Recommend configuration improvements and best practices based on available equipment.

  • Demonstrate expertise in network protocols, related hardware, and operating systems.

  • Diagnose and resolve network and security issues swiftly and effectively.

  • Maintain functionality across all network components, including antennas, surveillance cameras, routers, modems, servers, switches, firewalls, and internet links.

  • Identify failure points and propose corrective actions.

  • Develop a contingency plan to ensure uninterrupted network service.

  • Protect network systems from intrusions, threats, and cyberattacks.

  • Work fluently across operating systems such as Windows, Mac, Linux, and network environments.


Intern Profile – Required Skills and Qualities

To carry out the tasks described, the intern is expected to possess:

Technical Competencies:

  • Background in systems and network administration or cybersecurity.

  • Solid understanding of networks, virtualization, cloud technologies, cybersecurity, and operating systems.

  • Mastery of network protocols and architecture.

  • Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.

Additional Qualities:

  • Problem-solving skills and quick adaptability to new challenges.

  • Team spirit and ability to communicate technical insights in an accessible manner.


Internship Logistics

Duration: 8 weeks
Location: Lomé, Togo

Accommodation:
AFRICAVENIR does not directly provide accommodation but assists interns in securing comfortable housing (including basic furniture, bed, refrigerator, and internet access) for around €100/month.

Meals:
Meals are provided. A cook and housekeeper are assigned to support the intern with meal preparation, laundry, and general cleanliness.
