Fire detection assisted by drones

Description of the internship

Fixed camera images have certain limitations that can impact the efficiency and accuracy of the Pantera system. We would like to understand to what extent autonomously piloted drone images could complement the fixed cameras, for a faster confirmation of the location and magnitude of the fire. For this, the student will have to realize:

  1. A technical-economic study of the viability of the product;
  2. Development of a virtual simulation environment;
  3. Virtual simulation of a mission;
  4. Development of a GUI for the management of drones on Pantera;
  5. Small-scale POC.

Qualities and skills required

We need an autonomous, creative, curious, and determined student. A good written communication
communication is also important.

The following technical knowledge is necessary: Python/Linux.
The following technical knowledge is a plus: Spanish/Portuguese/Web development/APIs/ROS/PIX4.

Duration of the internship: 6 months
Location: São Paulo/Rio de Janeiro
Accommodation provided: No
Meals provided: No

Section(s) concerned: IC, MT, GM

Description of the organization

Umgrauemeio (umdegreeandhalf) is a Brazilian startup specializing in fire impact reduction technologies in natural and productive forests. We offer 2 products to our customers:

  1. Pantera is a software that brings together various technological tools such as AI analysis of camera images in real-time to detect smoke columns, satellite image analysis, fire risk prediction, fire propagation model, etc.
  2. Installation and maintenance of telecom infrastructure with off-grid solar systems. We use this infrastructure to transport the data from the cameras that provide images to Pantera.
