Description of the internship
We are always striving to create innovative projects that make us more self-sufficient and protect the environment.
One of the most important ways of reducing greenhouse gas emissions worldwide is to manage organic waste more effectively.
To this end, we have developed a small colony of black soldier flies.
We put all the organic waste in their bin and they naturally compost it. We then use the larvae to feed the fish and chickens, creating a closed-loop system. Everything is going well, but it’s a small structure and the system can be improved to better manage waste.
It can be improved to better manage waste and increase larvae production. BSF could even be used to generate income. We have a business plan, but we don’t have the people to implement it.
The aim of the project will be to optimise the system we already have. The current system is quite complex, and it takes a long time to complete a full cycle. We’d like to speed up and simplify production.

Description of the organization
We are a family-run orphanage, an English-language primary school for bright children from poor families on a 12-acre farm with many ecological projects.
We also run two HIV programmes in the city, including a support group for HIV-positive children.
Our school has 145 children and is growing all the time. Our aim is to integrate our green projects into the school to create a ‘green school’. Our aim is to educate children to learn about the environment so that they can take action themselves.
