Description of the internship
The SELCO Foundation invites trainees from its departments to participate in various projects. Projects will be mainly technical, or technical with a particular focus on reporting and documenting processes and learning. The following departments of the SELCO Foundation are regularly looking for interns:
- Built environments – Inclusive architecture and infrastructure
- Technology and design
- Monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL)
- CatalyseTech: Articulating problems and documenting cases
Projects will be allocated on the basis of the projects in progress at the time of application, the skills and interests of the applicant, and the specific needs of the teams.
Required qualities and skills
Qualities: Innovative, independent, energetic, highly adaptable and flexible
Skills:
- Built environments: Architecture, civil engineering and materials
- Technology, design and conception: Mechanics, engineering, product design, industrial design
- MEL: Management, technology and entrepreneurship
- CatalyseTech: Design Thinking, Systems Thinking, interpersonal communication, secondary and primary research and documentation
Visual communication skills are a plus.
Duration of the internship: 3-6 months

Description of the organization
The SELCO Foundation is a 10-year-old organisation committed to on-the-ground R&D and the creation of ecosystems for the deployment of clean energy solutions that reduce poverty in poor rural and urban areas. The organisation works closely with social sector practitioners, energy entrepreneurs and partners from various development sectors.
SELCO Foundation is an open-source platform with a network of research and development laboratories that implement and disseminate sustainable social innovations using an ecosystem approach.
SELCO Foundation aims to develop innovative and sustainable models – social, technical and financial – that have an impact on climate change and poverty reduction. We are a collaboration that strives to work on solutions, support agents and build a sustainable ecosystem for access to clean energy. The SELCO Foundation seeks to holistically facilitate context-related solutions and opportunities that improve the well-being and livelihoods of disadvantaged communities through sustainable energy and energy efficiency applications. Interventions are developed with a focus on local empowerment, replication and ethical scaling.
