Physical and numerical modelling of slope stability under extreme climatic events.

Description of the internship:

Due to global warming, extreme climate events are more frequent. In the northern part of South America, global warming seems to produce stronger draught seasons (El Niño seasons) followed by extreme rainy seasons (La Niña events). The results of these two extreme events on slope stability are not well understood. This internship’s purpose is to study this problem using a geotechnical centrifuge equipped with a climatic chamber. The experimental results could be complemented by numerical models.

Qualities and skills needed:

Civil engineer with knowledge of geotechnical engineering.
Environmental engineers with knowledge in climatic simulations.
Mechanical engineers with knowledge in control and instrumentation.

Duration of the internship: 2-6 months, starting on 01/2025 or later

Place: Bogota, Colombia

Housing provided: No

Possiblity to have meals included: No

Sections: Meca, SIE, GC
