Passwords management

You can easily and independently manage your password from any authentication window.

To guide you step by step through this process, we provide the following two guides:

  • Resetting your password

  • Adding a recovery email address

If needed, the Service Desk or your IT contact points are available to assist you.

Note: We strongly encourage you to provide a recovery email address (see procedure Add a recovery email address). This will be used both for password recovery and to receive security alerts in case your EPFL mailbox is unavailable.

RESET MY PASSWORD

  • After entering your @epfl.ch email address on a Microsoft Entra ID login page (for example: https://outlook.office.com/), click on « Following ».
  • Click on « I forgot my password ».

  • Enter your @epfl.ch email address again, then type the characters from the image, and finally click on « Next ».
  • You will then arrive on a first verification page asking you to choose one of the two-factor authentication methods linked to your account.

  • Confirm the verification based on the chosen method (push notification via Microsoft Entra ID, 6-digit code with Google Authenticator, or received on your recovery email inbox). Then click « Following ».

  • Enter your new password, then click « To end ».

  • A confirmation message will be displayed to confirm your password change.

ADD A RECOVERY EMAIL ADDRESS

 

  • Select the « Email » option.

  • Enter the recovery email address you wish to use (an address other than your EPFL email), then click on « Following ».

  • A verification email containing a 6-digit code will be sent to the address provided in the previous step. Enter the 6-digit code you received, then click on « Following ».

  • A confirmation message will be displayed to confirm the registration of this email address as a password recovery method.
