For accidents occurring in one of the 27 European Union member countries* as well as in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iceland, Montenegro, Norway, Principality of Liechtenstein, San Marino, Turkey and United Kingdom, the costs reimbursed by SUVA are limited to the social security rate (basic insurance) applicable in these States in accordance with the social security agreement concluded with the State concerned.

* Germany, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Croatia, Denmark, Spain, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Czech Republic, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden.

For those countries not mentioned above only, SUVA reimburses medical expenses (outpatient or hospital) up to a limit of double the amount of those that would be incurred for treatment in Switzerland.

For any travel and/or stay abroad, we recommend that you check your insurance cover with your health insurance.

Repatriation is possible if for example the hospital infrastructure of the host country does not offer good treatment conditions, for family reasons or when the length of the hospital stay may exceed three weeks. Repatriation costs cannot exceed the total of CHF 29,640.-

It is recommended that small amounts should be paid directly on the spot. SUVA will then subsequently reimburse these
