Information
- Categories can only be assigned to articles.
- Categories appear in the breadcrumb.
- Read this page if you have any doubts about the use of categories or labels.
- If you want to assign categories later, i.e. when the article has already been published, don’t forget to update it.
Default Category
By default all articles are assigned the category Uncategorized. An administrator can change this option and choose another category.
From the WordPress sidebar menu, choose Settings and then Writing
In the Default Post Category drop-down menu, choose a new category.
Assigning or removing a category to an item
By default, all articles are assigned the category Uncategorized.
- To assign categories, check the appropriate category or categories for your article
- To remove categories, remove the check mark.
Create a category or sub-category
- In the right column, make sure the Document tab is active, if not, click on it.
- Click on the Categories documentation panel to display the content
- Click on Add New Category
- Give a name to the new category
- To create a subcategory, choose the parent category from the drop-down menu
- Click on the Add New Category button
Modify a category
- From the WordPress side menu, move the cursor over the Posts item and then from the submenu, choose Categories
- Drag the cursor to the category you want to change and choose Edit.
Note: Quick edit only allows you to change the name of the category. - Make the desired changes.
- Click Update
Translate a category
- From the WordPress side menu, drag the cursor to Posts and then from the submenu, choose Categories
- Click on the category to be translated
- In the Translations field, click on the sign
- Name field : give a name for the new category
- [optional] Parent Category : Select the parent category from the drop-down menu.
- [optional] Description field: You can add a description of the category but this description is not used / is not displayed on the EPFL website.
- Click the Add New Category button.
Delete a category
- From the WordPress side menu, move the cursor over the Posts item and then from the submenu, choose Categories
- Drag the cursor to the category you want to delete and choose Delete. A warning message is displayed,
- Click on OK
Note: The Uncategorized category is then applied to the posts that only had the deleted category as their category.
