Conditions for an exchange during 3rd Bachelor year

In order to apply for an exchange in one of our partner universities, the students of all sections must meet the minimum requirements below:

  • outside Europe : average grade of minimum 5.0 at the Propédeutique
  • Europe + Switzerland : average grade of minimum 4.5 at the Propédeutique
  • the student must have completed the two first years at EPFL

After the selection, the requirements to be able to go on exchange for a full academic year are the following:

  • have obtained all the credits of the 2nd year (60 ECTS), including achieving an average grade of at least 4 across the two SHS courses.
  • students who completed the first year in the spring semester must obtain all credits of the 2nd year (60 ECTS) within a maximum of two semesters.
  • students who completed the first year in the autumn semester must obtain all credits of the 2nd year (60 ECTS) within a maximum of three semesters.
  • during the academic exchange, the student must enroll in the number of credits required to validate the third year of the Bachelor’s degre in order to obtain the Bachelor’s diploma at the end of the exchange. In all cases, they must enroll in a minimum equivalent of 45 ECTS.
  • the exchange must take place over a full academic year. A one-semester exchange is not possible.
  • it is necessary to have a good command of the language of the host country or the language of instruction. Most partner universities require a language certificate, with the required level varying depending on the institution.

Submitting an application does not guarantee an exchange spot at the preferred institution. Selection by EPFL does not guarantee acceptance by the partner.
