Harmonizing Intelligence – Humain-AI Collaboration, 8-11 July 2024, Eindhoven University of Technology (NL)

The summer school will address the topic of human-AI and human-robot teaming from an interdisciplinary perspective. An important step for developing a better understanding of how humans and technologies will work together in the future is to combine technical and social perspectives (e.g., computer science, psychology, sociology). Our goal is to enable students to discuss the opportunities and threats of human-machine collaboration and formulate appropriate strategies for future research and practice. We are synthesizing and integrating different perspectives from the EuroTech Universities, including their specialized labs and expertise. To foster interdisciplinary discourse, we will utilize different learning methods (e.g., front-lectures, workshops, pitch battle) to enable discussion across disciplinary boundaries.

Economics and Management of Innovation and Technological Change, 8-12 May 2023, Technical University of Denmark (DK)

The Summer School is meant to be offered as a PhD course in innovation management and innovation economics. PhD students that completed this program will be able to: have a better sense of the state-of-the-art in the field of economics and management of innovation and in more specialized subfields corresponding to own research interest; recognize what makes a good research question and identify promising research questions for their thesis and other research projects in the field of economics and management of innovation; elaborate a solid research design, relating in a consistent way the theoretical background, research question(s), method(s), and empirical implementation.

Methods of investigating teachers’s and student teachers’ collaborative work on developing and assessing learning environments in chemistry, 10-13 July 2023, Technion (IL)

The workshop will explore methods and avenues of research related to chemistry teachers and student teachers (collaborative) work on developing and assessing collaborative learning environments for chemistry students. The workshop will emphasize research on learning environments where chemistry teachers, student teachers and chemistry students need to work in groups, for example, chemistry educational games, chemistry inquiry-based experiments, chemistry teachers learning communities.

Concrete Life Cycle: from Cradle to Grave, 12-15 January 2020, Technion (IL)

The course will address sustainability, testing, design and construction of concrete structures exposed to different loading and environmental (including extreme) conditions. The research cooperation in studying the processes of concrete deterioration in different environments, and the development of advanced high-performance materials, with a focus on utilization of industrail by-products, such as coal fly ash and granulated slag, is expected to bring scientific and practical benefits for the society.

Model Order Reduction, 7-10 September 2020, EPFL (CH) via Zoom

Model order reduction (MOR) seeks to reduce the computational complexity of numerical simulations through the identification of potential simplifications of complex problems. The summer school will cover theoretical and practical aspects of MOR. The participants will be first introduced to certified reduction techniques for elliptic and parabolic problems, for which rigorous error bounds of the approximation errors are available. State-of-the-art MOR approaches for nonlinear dynamical systems, advection dominated models and physical problems characterized by delicate geometrical structures will be detailed through the summer school in the form of plenary lectures. In parallel, applications to real-world problems and to the emerging field of data assimilation will be addressed. Introductions to MOR software packages will be useful for having first hand experiences with MOR techniques.

Open Science in Practice, 2-6 September 2019, EPFL (CH)

‘Open’ is the new black. Everybody talks about open science. But what does it mean exactly? This summer school is for anyone interested in learning more about what academic research will look like in the future. Model Order Reduction Summer School, 23-27 September 2019, Academisch Genootschap Eindhoven (NL)

Classical numerical techniques, yielding high fidelity models, are not suitable for real-time estimation and control or multi-query simulations due to the high computational time and data storage required. The development of reduced-order modelling techniques is an indispensable step in order to obtain surrogate models of smaller size that approximate the system dynamics and at the same time require less computational effort. Model Order Reduction has emerged as an essential paradigm in all fields of science and engineering.
