In July 2012, EPFL and ENS de Lyon signed a framework agreement that confirms a long history of collaboration. The two schools have thus made a long-term commitment to form a strategic alliance, focusing on training and research.
EPFL and ENS de Lyon have decided to develop the mobility of their students and teacher-researchers, in particular by allowing additional training at Master level in the fields of excellence of each school, and by encouraging the creation of double diplomas and joint degrees.
The two schools also wished to intensify their scientific cooperation to meet new scientific, economic, societal and environmental challenges. In particular, exchanges between their teacher-researchers are facilitated, as is the mobility of their doctoral students (co-directoring a thesis and joint diploma) and the creation of joint research laboratories, which make it possible to open up their international networks to each other. Further information is available in the framework cooperation agreement between the Ecole normale supérieure de Lyon and EPFL.
Whereas, the Parties have agreed on the principle of awarding a joint PhD to commonly selected doctoral candidates (“Accord Cadre de Cooperation”, Lyon, 10 July 2012), EPFL and ENS Lyon wish to stress the main points of their respective doctoral school study process and rules in order to lay down in an agreement, signed in July 2016, the basic academic framework regarding joint PhD theses of their institutions.
Before to hire a candidate for an EPFL and ENS Lyon joint PhD, a specific agreement has to be agreed upon. Please contact the EPFL Doctoral School ([email protected]) when anticipating such collaboration.
