The EDAR doctoral program is aimed at Doctoral candidates who have been selected for the quality of their profiles, irrespective of whether they have completed their previous studies at the EPFL or elsewhere. It offers them an optimal working environment that takes into account the importance of individual autonomy in the introduction to research, the close relationship that evolves between supervisors and Doctoral candidates, but also the need for a substantial educational groundwork.
After the first year, which is made up notably of compulsory courses focusing on an introduction to research in the fields of the program, teaching is organised around weekly blocks with many visiting professors and around annual seminars. Two majors, namely Architecture and Social Sciences, are then pursued individually, while interdisciplinary enounters are provided along the way.
