EDEY Mentoring

A mentor can be an excellent resource at EPFL

Each doctoral program has a pool of Thesis Directors who are willing to serve as mentors. Mentors offer advice and support to PhD Students in the context of their professional research training while at EPFL. They are the first person of reference for the PhD Students for any topic not directly related to scientific research activities, as these are generally managed by the thesis director.

As part of the annual report, mentors meet with the PhD Students to discuss the progress of their work and their well-being in the laboratory.

Each pool of mentors meets regularly with the program director who, only with the agreement of the PhD Student, takes the necessary measures in case of reported problems.

You choose your mentor from the program’s pool (see below) within the first month after your enrolment. Once you have chosen a mentor, please send their name to [email protected] who will check the availability of the mentor and may give advice. If you have not chosen a mentor within 1 month, the program will assign you one. You can change your mentor at anytime. However, 2 conditions are required for the change:

  1. You must have met your current mentor at least once before making the request to change the mentor.
  2. Send an email explaining the reasons of the change to the EDEY director.

The mentor remains anonymous with respect to the thesis director to ensure confidentiality. It is your decision if you would like to keep this anonymity or not.

Your mentor is a valuable resource and is available to discuss your academic progress and provide guidance. Please feel free to contact your mentor whenever you deem necessary.
