EDMI Mentoring

A mentor can be an excellent resource at EPFL

Each doctoral program has a pool of professors who are willing to serve as student mentors. These professors are interested in mediation, offering advice and supporting doctoral candidates in the context of their training. They are the first person of reference for the doctoral candidate in case of problems with the thesis director or the laboratory.

As part of the annual report, mentors meet with the doctoral candidates to discuss the progress of their work and their well-being in the laboratory.

Each pool of mentors meets regularly with the program director who, only with the agreement of the doctoral candidate, takes the necessary measures in case of reported problems.

A mentor from the program’s pool (see below) is randomly assigned by the Program Director to each new PhD student starting in EDMI.

You can request to change mentor at any time. To do so, please send an email to [email protected]

The mentor remains anonymous with respect to the thesis director(s) to ensure confidentiality. It is your decision if you would like to keep this anonymity or not.

Your mentor cannot be part of your candidacy or thesis oral examination jury.

The role of your mentor is to offer guidance regarding career choices and resolution of any difficulties or conflicts.

Please feel free to contact your mentor whenever you deem necessary.

Are you interested in being a mentor? Please contact the doctoral program’s administrator at the following address: [email protected]
