EPFL's My Thesis in 180 Seconds 2024 – EPFL Competition
Congratulations to EDMX finalists of the 8th Edition of the EPFL Competition MT180 which took place on 21 March 2024 at the Forum Rolex:
Maria Marcineck from LP, 1st place
Stella Laperrousaz from FIMAP, 3rd place
They will have the opportunity to compete in the Swiss finale organised by CUSO on June 20 at the University of Fribourg.
EDMX Research Day 2024
The EDMX Research Day is an annual event that brings together all materials science Doctoral Candidates at EPFL as well as other members of our scientific community.
The event took place on Wednesday February 7th, 2024.
EDMX Eat'N'Meet & Coffee with LMGN, PBL and LAFT
The information session Eat’n Meet EDMX took place on November 15, 2023. We organize this event together with the section MX to promote the doctorate in Material Sciences and Engineering. Three Doctoral Candidates presented their project and experience:
– Huixin Guo from LMGN with the presentation “My Dynamic 3D work and life”
– Cem Tekin from PBL with the presentation “Engineering Supramolecular 2D Crystals”
– Biruktait Lemecho from LAFT with the presentation “”Harmonizing the Cosmos: Integrating CO2 Capture, Conversion, and Advanced Material Manufacturing for Sustainable Space Exploration”
Discussion has been followed around a buffet-lunch.
EDMX Eat'N'Meet & Coffee with LMSC and SML
The information session Eat’n Meet EDMX took place on May 10, 2023. We organize this event together with the section MX to promote the doctorate in Material Sciences and Engineering. Two Doctoral Candidates and an Alumni presented their project and experience:
– Alexandra Thoma from Soft Materials Laboratory (SMAL) with the presentation “From Food to Drops”
– Chuen-Ru Li from Soft Materials Laboratory (SMAL) with the presentation “Charge-selectively of permeable microcapsules”
– Alejandra Slagter from Laboratory of Mechanical Metallurgy (LMM) with the presentation “Steelmaking: insights from micromechanics”
Discussion has been followed around a buffet-lunch.
A coffee break was then organized by our PhD representatives Gaia De Angelis and Kyle Haas with the presentation of 2 laboratories:
– Tribology and Interfacial Chemistry Group (TIC)
– Laboratory of Semiconductor Materials (LMSC).

Congratulations to EDMX finalists of the 7th Edition of the EPFL Competition MT180 which took place on 30 March 2023 at the Forum Rolex:

EDMX Research Day 2023
The EDMX Research Day 2023 took place on Wednesday February 8th, 2023.
EDMX Christmas Lunch 2022
The EDMX Christmas lunch, organised by our Doctoral Candidates Representatives, Gaia De Angelis and Kyle Haas, took place on December 6th 2022.
This lunch gave a chance to Doctoral Candidates to discuss various topics that concern their PhD: how the TAs are going, any new publications, any new projects you are working on, and so on.
EDMX Breakfast 2022
On October 6, 2022, the EDMX Breakfast Event, organised by our Doctoral Candidate Representatives, Gaia De Angelis and Kyle Haas, took place.
It was a moment of sharing in good atmospher between Doctoral Candidates, Post-docs and Professors.
EDMX Summer Event 2022
On July 21st, 2022, the EDMX Summer Event, organised by our Doctoral Candidate Representatives, Gaia De Angelis and Kyle Haas, took place.
The event started with interesting talks given by EDMX alumni, Alvaro Charlet and Amin Rostamian. Then a buffet dinner has been shared.
