The aim of this project is to provide Geneva International Airport with a tool to produce and analyze different scenarios for its energy system’s transition.
The energy system of an airport such as Geneva’s is complex, not only on in terms of the services provided, but also in the way it is used. With a view to integrating renewable energy, reducing its carbon footprint and providing a fossil fuel-free thermal supply by 2025, Geneva International Airoport needs a tool to analyze and assist in choosing the best energy strategy.
This project aims to design a tool that will generate and analyze different transition scenarios for the airport’s energy system so that it can:
– carry out a plan for the development of thermal installations (e.g. investments to be made, phasing projects)
– choose an optimal management strategy for thermal installations, both in terms of production, storage and distribution of heat and cold.
The four-year project will be carried out by a PhD student, supervised by EPFL’s Industrial Process and Energy Systems Engineering Group of Professor François Maréchal, and Professor Jessen of HES-SO Valais-Wallis.
