Reduced order models and fast computational tools for domestic heat pump simulation and design

PhD and postdoc positions may be available in the Chair of Scientific Computing and Uncertainty Quantification (CSQI) on the development of reduced order models, fast simulation tools, uncertainty propagation, and robust optimization techniques for the design of domestic heat pumps driven by gas-bearing small scale turbocompressors. The project is in collaboration with the Laboratory for Applied Mechanical Design (LAMD) and the Automatic Control Laboratory (LA3) at EPFL.

An ideal candidate will have a strong background in at least some of the areas of numerical approximation of for partial differential equations, computational mechanics / fluid dynamics, reduced order modeling, scientific machine learning, uncertainty quantification, and numerical optimization.

PhD candidates are encouraged to apply to the EDMA doctoral program and express their interest in this position in their motivation letter and application form. They are also encouraged to send separately a CV to Prof. Fabio Nobile by email.

Postdoc candidates should contact directly Prof. Fabio Nobile and send a full application package containing: letter of motivation, CV including a list of publications, research statement, names and contacts of 3 references.
