Software Engineer Internship – database development

Mission

Sustainability of the space ecosystem is jeopardized by a growing population of space debris. If the current trend continues the risk of losing access to Earth’s orbit will increase dramatically.

One particular EPFL project, funded by the SNSF BRIDGE Discovery, is making breakthrough contributions to the analysis of both ground-based and in-orbit images so as to facilitate generic debris disposal, thus broadening the applicability of the technology developed for the ClearSpace-1 mission and increasing its impact on the space debris monitoring and removal market. Specifically, this project is investigating improving space debris knowledge databases; and extending our ability to determine the 6DoF pose of space objects. This project is a collaboration among three entities at EPFL: CVLab, LASTRO and eSpace at the EPFL Space Center.

We aim to share the products and technologies we have developed over the past three years with the space community; specifically, in the deployment of our Orbital Debris Lightcurve Inventory (ODLI). The software engineer will work alongside our team to organize ODLI to be user-friendly and containing user-oriented features.
