Der musikalische Zusammenhang in den Kompositionen des 18. und 19. Jahrhunderts basiert auf Funktionalität, und Analyseansätze wie die Schenkerian Analysis oder die Tonfeld-Analyse zielen darauf, diese Funktionalität aufzuzeigen, indem sie innerhalb einzelner Kompositionen Tonbeziehungen aufdecken und diese als (Struktur-)Typen bestimmen. Anhand ausgewählter Kompositionen aus dem Zeitraum vom frühen 18. bis späten 19. Jahrhundert werden die Möglichkeiten funktionaler Analyse (Schenkerian Analysis und Tonfeld-Analyse) diskutiert – unter besonderer Berücksichtigung der Rolle der Stimmführung; denn mit dem Wandel der Funktionalität, der sich von der zweiten Hälfte des 18. Jahrhunderts an spürbar vollzogen hat, ging eine veränderte Rolle der Stimmführung einher.

The musical coherence in the compositions of the 18th and 19th centuries is based on functionality, and analytical approaches such as Schenkerian Analysis or Tonfeld Analysis aim to reveal this functionality by uncovering tonal relationships within individual compositions and identifying them as (structural) types. On the basis of selected compositions from the period from the early 18th to the late 19th century, the possibilities of functional analysis (Schenkerian and Tonfeld analysis) will be discussed – with particular attention to the role of voice leading; for the change in functionality, which took place most noticeably from the second half of the 18th century onwards, was accompanied by a change in the role of voice leading.
Pieces to be analysed and discussed include: Corelli, Trio Sonata op. 1 n. 1; Mozart, KV311, ii and KV309, i; Mendelssohn, Hebrides Ouverture; Debussy, La Mer; Brahms op. 117 n. 2.
