The joint research activities of the Distributed Electrical Systems Laboratory (DESL) and the Power Systems group (PWRS) refer to the development of smart grid concept solutions in order to efficiently deliver sustainable, economic and secure electricity supply. These solutions aim to integrate intelligently the actions of all users connected to the electrical network whatever they are generators or consumers.
Overall, the research activities are built around a central theme of design from five main perspectives:
Power distribution
Development of technologies for modern power distribution networks
Power transmission
Definition of ancillary services to be provided by distribution grids
Energy storage
Modelling the flexibilities of elechtrochemical energy storage and electricity demand
Forecasting
Development of machine-learning-based techniques forecasting energy resources
Power systems transients
Modelling of transients in overhead lines and coaxial cables
