Semester Project: Automation of a tethered balloon system

This project aims to automatize the upward and downward movement of the tethered balloon pictured above. The balloon is navigated with a winch. The student will develop and code an interface through which the operator can enter a pre-set program for the balloon movement, e.g., how often, how fast and in how many steps the balloon shall go up and down.

The balloon carries instrumentation to measure the chemical composition of the atmosphere and in clouds. The automatized version will be deployed in missions in the Arctic and Antarctic.
