Probing contamination in microscale porous evaporator

Context and challenge: in high flux evaporators/condensers, impurities can quickly accumulate at the interface during the operation, causing device performance degradation.

Approach: investigate accumulation of impurities non-invasively with micro-Raman spectroscopy

Expected activities:

  • Perform Raman microscopy of microporous membrane and develop data processing tool with machine learning algorithms.
  • Participate in microporous chip preparation in cleanroom facility, develop CAD designs in Solidworks models to improve current experimental setup.
  • Develop theoretical model of pore evaporation and validate it with COMSOL simulation.
