Probing contamination in microscale porous evaporator

Credit: Sk Rameez Iqbal

Context and challenge: in high flux evaporators/condensers, impurities can quickly accumulate at the interface during the operation, causing device performance degradation.

Approach: investigate accumulation of impurities non-invasively with micro-Raman spectroscopy

If you plan to do a semester/thesis project on this:

What we expect:
Basic knowledge of fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer, and mechanical design

What you will learn:
– Raman microscopy on microporous membrane
– Data processing of Raman spectra using machine learning algorithms.
– Theoretical modeling of porous evaporator with COMSOL simulation.
