Grateful statement by Professor Luc Thévenaz to commemorate the end of the Group’s activities:
During the very last days of September 2023, I presented my honorary lecture that shows my promotion as Emeritus Professor and incidentally my retirement as Research Professor.
It also means that my research group and lab are shut down and it is time to thank and remember all people who joined and contributed to the “GFO Family”: doctoral students and postdocs collaborators, but also all internship and visiting researchers during these past 35 years. I shall cherish these moments of interaction with you all for ever.
The Honorary Lecture was an opportunity to review all achievements and pitfalls experienced during the GFO life and before, as well as inspiring “some personal thoughts on the immeasurable difficulties experienced by researchers in gaining recognition for their visionary concepts in the face of a wall of skepticism and conformism”.
Thank you to all joining this event: former collaborators, partners, friends & family, etc…, some coming from China, Brazil, Canada, Spain, Sweden, Germany, Italy, France, … and sorry for those who wanted to join, but could not due to travelling restrictions.
The next day a commemorating Workshop was organised in a castle above Montreux, followed by a hearty dinner party. It was a heartwarming pleasure to have you all for this event that I shall never forget.
GFO has completed its mission, but you will continue to make it alive through your own successes
