The Central Environmental Laboratory (CEL) conducts research and provides services in the fields of environmental analytical chemistry and molecular biology. The CEL, which is run by Florian Breider, is composed of lab technicians, apprentices and senior researchers. Its research focuses mainly on the fate of micro-pollutants and nano/micro-plastics in the aquatic and terrestrial environment, the development of cutting edge analytical methods to detect organic and inorganic pollutants and the role of microorganisms in the natural and engineered environments.
The CEL provides services, teaching and coaching as well as technical assistance to all research groups associated with the Environmental Engineering Institute (IIE) and collaborators from the School of Architecture, Civil and Environmental Engineering (ENAC) or other EPFL schools.
