How does ecology shape immunity? Our research lies at the interface between microbial immunity and microbial ecology and focuses on elucidating how microbes fend off viral infections across ecological settings. We use global scale DNA sequencing of microbial communities to peer into the genomes of microbes and unravel their immune strategies within and between ecosystems (including the ocean and the human microbiome).
