The Rediscovery of Greek Fortifications: Imaginaries, Realities, Spaces
The fortifications scattered across the landscapes of the Greek world have long been misunderstood, as they were studied primarily from the perspective of military history. It was only in the late 20th century, with the rise of landscape archaeology, that their true significance was uncovered. Their study reveals how the Greeks gradually employed this type of architecture to defend both their civic territory and their economic space.
