Tesla joined HOBEL group in April, 2021. He is a thermal manikin equipped with heating and sensing elements 0.2 mm under his skin with spacing 2.2 mm and 22 zones for thermal control, that can simulate an uniform heat loss from a real human body.
Tesla can be placed as different postures, such as sitting and walking postures, depending on its applications. Besides, he contains a breathing system validated with real human data. Tracer gas is allowed to be added to the exhale air. The sinusoidal inhale and exhale functions and the humid exhale air, that can enable researchers to conduct studies in terms of air quality and the influence on human exposure. Moreover, the function of analyzing clo values of different clothes can be used to analyze thermal comfort impact under various indoor scenarios.
More technical details are listed below:
- The manikin can be separated in the waist and includes 22 zones for thermal control:
1-2 Feet
3-4 Forelegs
7-10 Thighs
11-12 Pelvis
13-14 Hands
15-16 Forearms
17-18 Upper arms
19-20 R-L Back
21-22 R-L Chest
24-24 Head - Sampling rate 40 Hz in all sections
- Precision: 0.1 degrees after calibration
- Heat flux: +- 0.5%, ranging from 15 to 45 degree.
- All data is stored by selected averaging time to a file for spreadsheet.
- For total body or selected groups of sections: PMV, PPD, SET* and clo
- User-friendly software with visualization of body parts, zonal heat flux and temperature indications, and transient graphs with running measurements and “thermo vision” picture and stability indication to detect steady-state.
