Non-invasive modulation of the human sensoriMOtor system via Transcranial Ultrasound Stimulation

This research project investigates stroke rehabilitation under the scope of reinforcement learning or sensorimotor integration which are impaired amongst survivors. To that aim, we employ transcranial ultrasound stimulation, a non-invasive brain stimulation approach, to transiently disrupt these processes in healthy participants by targeting sensorimotor regions such as the Thalamus. Different readouts such as the assessment of cortical excitability, functional magnetic resonance scans, and behavioral assessments will be employed. The knowledge acquired will be further deployed to develop tailored therapies using transcranial ultrasound stimulation to boost sensorimotor integration or reinforcement learning in stroke patients.
