We are delighted to announce the release of Ian Florin’s book Du rideau de fer au réseau écologique : Géopolitique et conservation de la nature aux frontières de l’Europe du Nord by Alphil-Swiss University Press.
Based on Ian Florin’s doctoral thesis, this work explores the initiative to develop the Green Belt of Fennoscandia, which aims to make the nature preserved during Cold War restrictions a topic of dialogue between Finland, Norway, and Russia.
At a time when Russo-European relations are frozen due to the war in Ukraine, and the importance of ecological networks is reaffirmed by the Global Biodiversity Conservation Strategy, the book sheds light on the intersection between environmental conservation and geopolitics since the end of the Cold War, the competing proposals the concept of an ecological network can introduce, as well as the challenges of involving local populations in environmental conservation initiatives.
The printed edition is available at your favorite bookstore, and the ebook can be downloaded for free from the Alphil Swiss University Press website, thanks to the support of the Swiss National Science Foundation.
