The international and interdisciplinary journal Sustainable Cities and Society has published an article on work carried out at the Laboratory of Architecture and Sustainable Technologies (LAST) as part of the Symbiotic Housing research project funded by Innosuisse, the Swiss Innovation Agency. Entitled “Between household structure, urban density, and ecological transition: rethinking the approach of estimating housing needs in Switzerland” and co-written by Ulrich Liman, Dr. Martine Laprise, and Prof. Emmanuel. Rey, the article proposes a novel modeling framework based on a prospective and statistical approach to estimate – quantitatively and spatially – housing needs with a view to a low-carbon society.

Contribution to the Sun Shines on Architecture exhibition

The “Sun Shines on Architecture” exhibition is developed by Archizoom, as part of the Solar Biennale organized by the MUDAC – Cantonal Museum of Contemporary Design and Applied Arts. On this occasion, the Laboratory of Architecture and Sustainable Technologies (LAST) presents elements relating to the SYMBIOTIC HOUSING research project. The exhibition, which runs until June 21, 2025 in the Archizoom gallery, invites a wide public to immerse themselves in the many issues involved in integrating solar issues into architecture.

Upon availability: building with what already exists

Education

Benjamin Poignon, architect at baubüro in situ in Zurich, was invited by Prof. Emmanuel Rey’s studio at the Laboratory of Architecture and Sustainable Technologies (LAST) to talk about his work as an architect through a selection of projects. Entitled "Selon arrivage : construire avec l’existant", his talk gave students the opportunity to discover projects that tackled, in particular, the challenges of building with reused elements.
