Operational indicator system for the integration of sustainability into the design process of urban brownfield regeneration.
In a context characterized by questioning of urban sprawl, urban brownfield provides interesting potential for reclaiming space. In fact, land regeneration can simultaneously make the existing built environment more compact and revitalize certain sections of inner cities and urban areas. Although several projects of this type have got underway in Switzerland and Europe over the past decade, they are unfortunately only very vaguely or indirectly linked with the notion of sustainable development.
In reaction, the present research project proposes an evaluation methodology, based on an operational indicator system for the integration of environmental, socio-cultural and economic criteria into the design process of urban brownfield regeneration. By the integration of criteria and indicators into a new digital monitoring tool, the research will provide concrete bases to facilitate the integration of sustainability into the dynamics of regeneration projects for urban brownfield.
