Innovative design strategies for local energy self-reliance at the district scale by integrating issues related to buildings, infrastructures, mobility and food.
Within a context of growing effort to develop sustainability strategies in the built environment, the reduction of the energy consumption is one of the core challenges. In this perspective, the research project entitled “Symbiotic Districts” aims to develop a new design and calculation methodology for creating symbiotic districts in the Swiss urban context.
The research explores the scientific, technical, urban development and architectural dimensions that influence local energy and resource self-reliance at the district scale. The transposal of industrial ecology tools to the field of urban planning will allow the integration of energy issues related to habitat, activities, infrastructure, mobility and food.
