Solid–state nanopores and nanopipettes are novel nanoscale systems with variety of applications, such as single biomolecule sensing, control and separation, electrical control of nanofluidic flows; or electrokinetic power conversion. To define their function we combine advanced nanofabrication with nanoelectronics, nanofluidics, surface chemistry, material science, and biotechnology. We fabricate nanopores in 2D material membranes such as a monolayer of molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) or hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) and employ them for single-molecule analysis, osmotic power generation and exploration of novel phenomena at solid-liquid interfaces.
