We are currently depolying a campus-wide smart grid infrastructure at EPFL. The goal of the smart grid network is to get real time information about the state of the electrical grid from measurement devices called Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs) deployed at different important locations in the campus. The data collected from these devices is then used for real time monitoring, control and protection operations.
The goal of the project is, therefore, to implement a cyber-secure communication network that ensures both device level and system level security. The security solutions will encompass, among other things, deplyoment of network access control, PKI based scalable key management, and implementation of hop-by-hop and end-to-end cryptographic message authentication.
Prerequisites:
- Network security
- Linux and security tools such as ssh, LDAP.
- Strong programming skills
Previous work in security related projects is a plus.
