Brain arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are the most dangerous of the cerebrovascular malformations with the potential to cause intracranial hemorrhage and epilepsy in many cases. However, neither the pathogenesis of brain AVMs nor the appropriate course of treatment are well understood. In many cases interventional treatment is linked with high risk for the patient and potential adverse effects. By implementing 3D CFD and other computational techniques, we aim to better understand the underlying mechanisms of AVMs, their risk of rupture and ultimately help clinicians determine the best possible treatment for each patient.
