Since their introduction about 50 years ago, synthetic grafts have seen wide application in the fields of cardiac and vascular surgery. Despite their good performance and applicability, there is still a lot of room for improvement, especially if we consider the spectrum of pathologies that they are implemented in. Our aim is to improve their design and construct grafts that successfully mimic the native arterial wall’s properties and structure. To this end, we use a combination of finite element methods (FEM), 3D CFD and experimental techniques.
