The Laboratory of Construction Materials will host on the 7-8th May, 2019 the first workshop of an interdisciplinary group of experts. The workshop aims to develop an innovative inter-disciplinary research combining engineering, architecture, economists, social scientists and concrete science to address together the issue of poor quality concrete construction around the world.
The intensive urbanization is challenging the use of concrete while offering a large potential for change. Inadequate practices such as poor quality of concrete, are a key concern that involves not only the durability of our cities but also human lives and sustainable development of economies. Mitigating this issue starts with building a comprehensive understanding of the multiple factors to poor practices. Conventional scientific analysis is not enough to solve such a societal challenge.
