Ordering, Microstructural Evolution and Mechanical Properties of AuCuX Alloys
E. Klay, F. Diologent, A. Mortensen
The aim of this project was to explore processing-structure-strength relations in high-strength red gold alloys, containing from 75 to 78 % wt. % Au, 0 to 15% Pt with the remainder Cu. We measured transition temperatures in these alloys and identified the phases present and the (complex) structures formed below the ordering temperature, using transmission electron microscopy and in-situ synchrotron X-ray diffraction at the ESRF. We conducted detailed investigations of resulting microstructures, coupled with measurements of their strength and plastic flow stress.
