Our Symposium on Perspectives In Geotechnical Engineering was a great success full of interesting presentations on the the future direction of our field. The Symposium was followed by the festive occasion of Prof. Laurent Vulliet’s Honorary Lecture. The video is available here.
GETE Winter School 2020
We were delighted to host guest lecturers and participants from all around the world at the 3rd edition of the Winter School on Geomechanics for Energy and the Environment. The event took place on January 21st – 23rd 2020 in Villars-sur-Ollon, Switzerland.
Our Laboratory
Our lab has a wide range of experimental facilities, from standard characterization tests to more specific ones dedicated to advanced research in geomechanics. LMS also performs experimental analysis for engineering projects.

LMS’ History
Geotechnical Laboratory in EPFL was founded in 1935 by professor Alfred Stucky with headquarters in Rue de Geneve in Lausanne. In 1976 it was moved to the “new” EPFL campus. The Laboratory has been led by a series of distinguished professors and entrepreneurs: A. Stucky until 1947 then D. Bonnard until 1972; E. Recordon till 1993 and L. Vulliet up to 2007. Since 2008 is led by Prof. Lyesse Laloui. The Laboratory of Soil Mechanics is today one of the most internationally renowned geomechanics research groups, both in terms of scientific production and intellectual impact.
