Dr. Manhal Sirat came to EPFL on the 5th of May 2015 for a presentation on reservoir geomechanics.
Dr. Manhal Sirat has earned his PhD Degree in Mineralogy, Petrology and Tectonics from Uppsala University, Sweden in 1999. He has +28 years of multidisciplinary experience in industry and International Academic Institutions worldwide (Uppsala, Hawaii, Philadelphia and Aachen Universities and finally at the Petroleum Institute (PI)). He has taught several professional long- and short-term courses, supervised graduate students, and managed the Reservoir Characterization and Modeling Project at Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and PI. His research projects involve Reservoir Geomechanics; fracture characterization, analysis and modeling and their implications for exploration, production and development; fractures related diagenesis; physical analog modeling of carbonate reservoirs, and applications of artificial neural networks to engineering related problems.
His +100 papers were published in numerous conferences, workshops and peer reviewed journals such as Engineering Geology, Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences, GeoArabia, Journal of Petroleum Geology, Journal of Marine and Petroleum Geology, and SPE and IPTC, among others. Dr. Sirat is currently working at ADCO Research and Development Division as Principal Researcher and is the Structural Geology and Geomechanics Expert of ADCO. He is an active member of ESG, SPE and EAGE.
