Courtney Applewhite

Courtney received her doctorate in religious studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she conducted ethnographic research among U.S. advocates and leaders in environmental methods to dispose of deceased bodies and the process by which people made decisions about the deceased body. Using her expertise in cognitive science of religion, grief and bereavement theory, and qualitative research methods, Courtney’s work bridges the divide between scientific and humanistic ways in which we understand the world around us.
