Android app for gathering contextual information in clinical studies

Laboratory : LSIR Semester / Master Completed

Description

Within the OpenSense project, pollution sensors were deployed in the cities of Zurich and Lausanne, generating continuous measurements of the air quality. This allowed us to build fine-grained pollution models and use them for research in the health domain. But to be able to assess the effect of pollution on our lives, it is also necessary to take into account the context of the participants to the clinical studies. Therefore we started developing a simple mobile app that would record those parameters automatically (location, activity,…). In parrallel the privacy aspect has also been taken into account, providing a way to the participants to express their preferences with regards to their location privacy.

The goal of the project will be to integrate the privacy protection library in the monitoring Android app (tinyGSN) and perform tests to asses the actual energy consumption and performance of the whole system. There maybe also some features to improve or implement in tinyGSN to make the clinical studies easier to manage for the medical staff.
