Thomas Weber is an Ingénieur des Arts et Manufactures (École Centrale Paris) and a Diplom-Ingenieur in Electrical Engineering (Technical University Aachen). He holds S.M. degrees in Technology and Policy and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, as well as an M.A. in Operations and Information Management and a Ph.D. in Managerial Science and Applied Economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Between 2003 and 2011 he was a faculty member in the Department of Management Science and Engineering at Stanford University. From 1998 to 2002 he worked as a senior consultant at the Boston Consulting Group. In 2008, he was a visiting faculty member in the Department of Economics at the University of Cambridge, and in 2009 in the Department of Mathematics at Moscow State University.
Professor Weber’s current research interests include the economics of information and uncertainty, the design of contracts, and strategy. He has been developing new theoretical models and methods that have the potential to change the way in which we approach social systems, and integrate different levels of analysis. His papers have appeared in American Economic Journal: Microeconomics, Information Systems Research, Decision Support Systems, Economics Letters, Economic Theory, Journal of Mathematical Economics, Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control, Journal of Optimization Theory and Applications, Management Science, Operations Research, Optimal Control Applications and Methods, and Theory & Decision. He is the author of a book on “Optimal Control Theory with Applications in Economics,” published by MIT Press in 2011.

Anjali Nursimulu is an economist from the University of Cambridge and holds a Masters in Economic Theory and Econometrics from the Institut d’Economie Industrielle (Toulouse School of Economics). She earned her Ph.D. in Management of Technology from the College of Management of Technology and the Swiss Finance Institute at EPFL. Before joining EPFL, Anjali worked as a lecturer in Economics at the University of Mauritius and as a research assistant in Behavioral Finance at the Swiss Banking Institute in Zurich.
In 2012, Anjali also served as a pro bono advisor on strategy and performance measures for social and environmental enterprises to a start-up, specializing in impact investing. Her ongoing work spans the economics of sustainability and supply-chain strategy.

Michael Mark is a PhD student at the chair of Operations, Economics and Strategy. He holds a Master of Science degree in Computational Finance from the University of Leicester and an undergraduate degree in Mathematics from Université Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris. From 2015 to 2016 Michael worked as a quantitative risk analyst at EY, London, in one of its advisory divisions. Michael’s current work focuses on credit collections. His other research interests include stochastic systems and decisions under uncertainty.

Jun Han is a PhD student at the chair of Operations, Economics and Strategy, supervised by Prof. Thomas Weber. He holds an undergraduate degree in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics from Nankai University. His research interests include decisions under uncertainty, operations research, and applications of tensors on data science. He aims to do research for the better understanding of the world and the improvement of human life.

Ru Zhang is a PhD student at the chair of Operations, Economics and Strategy, supervised by Prof. Thomas Weber. He holds a Master’s degree from Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne in Mathematical Models and Methods in Economics and Finance, with a recipient of the PGSM Master Scholarship. His research is centered on stochastic dynamic programming, optimization, and optimal control. Driven by a passion for intellectual inquiry, he aspires to contribute to a deeper understanding of complex systems and to enhance human welfare through his research.
