March has been a whirlwind of scientific discoveries and adventures! We’re thrilled to share three brand-new papers from our team, along with some exciting updates from conferences and workshops.
Hot Off the Press: Three New Publications!
Laura Mekarni explores how trees balance the effects of high temperature and vapor pressure deficit (VPD) on drought-induced mortality. Her findings show that while high temperatures accelerate mortality through increased leaf area, VPD-driven acclimation slows it down. A delicate dance of survival in a warming world! Margaux Didion-Gency (now postdoc at CREAF, Spain) takes on the challenge of assessing plant heat tolerance. By comparing different methods, she reveals that while critical temperature (Tcrit) remains stable, photosynthetic machinery suffers irreversible damage beyond T50. A game-changer for understanding plant resilience! Add here the link once published
Janisse Deluigi investigates how warming and drought impact tree carbon uptake. Despite some acclimation, beech and oak saplings struggle under prolonged stress, mainly due to reduced leaf area. The takeaway? Warmer and drier conditions spell trouble for future forests. Add here link
Conferences & Workshops
This month, many of us packed our bags and headed to exciting scientific gatherings! First, we joined the ZHydro conference in Monte Verità (Switzerland), and then some of our team traveled to Sevilla for Xim6.
Alyssa showcased her work on heat tolerance.
Thibaut presented his research on invasive species.
Giovanni unveiled the first results from our VPDrought project.
A huge congratulations to all our presenters and authors! March has been packed with science, collaboration, and inspiration. Stay tuned for more updates!
